Google started sending emails to Gemini Live customers earlier this month regarding an update that makes "your chats even more vibrant and entertaining." Here’s how to determine if you have the latest Gemini Live update, which is presently in the process of being rolled out.
The "latest model" is behind the new Gemini Live experience. It allows Live to "assist with your translation needs" and "better understand various languages, dialects, or accents."
Users with this update are mentioning that additional languages, especially "less common ones," are now supported. At present, you can converse using a selection of languages or manually choose two from the
5 available languages.
Accessing the profile menu > Gemini Apps Activity, however, is the definitive indication that you possess this new Gemini Live. This version includes the audio of your conversation, while the previous Gemini Live only captured text transcripts. Screenshares and videos will also be kept here once Astra arrives.
Although Google has not yet officially announced this upgrade, Gemini 2.0 offers developers a Multimodal Live API that can manage text, audio, and video inputs and output text and audio.
This has not yet been widely adopted. One user of a Pixel 9 Pro XL with Gemini Advanced has reported observing this rollout. Widespread availability should be forthcoming since the email was sent to free Gemini users as well.
