Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus For European Models prices have leaked

The European prices of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus may have been unearthed in a recent leak. Evan Blass (@evleaks) tweeted the European prices yesterday, indicating that the Galaxy S9 would go on sale for €841 while the Galaxy S9 Plus would cost €997.

Last year, the Galaxy S8 arrived at €799 while the Galaxy S8 Plus cost €899, meaning we could see respective ~€50 and ~€100 increases for the latest models. A rough guide based on today’s exchange rate would put those prices at $1,037 and $1,230 in the US, but these prices rarely translate directly from country to country.For example, the Galaxy S8 started at around $750 in the US and the S8 Plus cost $850 (though they could have been picked up for slightly less depending on the specific carrier/deals). Meanwhile, the S8 started at £689 in the UK and the S8 Plus retailed at £779.

If the speculation is somewhat accurate and we see a €50 and €100 euro increase in Europe, that still might put the new phones somewhere between a $50 and $100 increases in the US—in other words, $799 and $949 for the S9 and S9 Plus respectively.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves because not only are EU prices based on speculation, they’re also…strange. A €156 difference between the two models? Prices ending in a seven and a one? @evleaks has an excellent track record when it comes to leaks but I’d be surprised if Samsung announces those prices. They’re uncomfortable, they stick out, and that could spell bad news for sales (you can read a detailed explanation of how we perceive numbers, and why retail products so often end with a number nine, here).
